You cannot underestimate the importance of the Yak to Tibetan life. This unique creature is emeshed in the culture and mythology and lifestyle of Tibetans and has been for thousands of years. A high altitude beast, they will not thrive in lower places.
The Yak provides Tibetans with transportation, meat, milk, cheese, butter and yoghurt, wool and skins for clothing and for making felt and tents.They are also renowned for their ability to cross snowy mountain ranges safely.
